Thrifting

I have always liked to thrift but the past few months I have really been taking advantage of all the thrift shops that are around town. This is a recent find.

A beautiful metal pin, painted white and yellow. Also, I got some vintage napkins with lace trim. I love them.

Card Club

I recently joined a card club, that meets once a month to learn
new techniques, and have fun making cards.

I have to admit it was a little bit out of my comfort zone going with a bunch of women I don't know, but I absolutely had a blast.

Some of the techniques used for these cards I thought would be hard because they look so intricate but actually everything we did was super easy.

This card is my favorite because of the flower.
I love this flower and actually it is pretty easy to make.
Beate has a great tutorial on You Tube if you want to try one for yourself.
I am going to have to find more projects to use this flower in.

Mod Podge

So, here are my thoughts on Mod Podge.... if you even care to know.
I like it, however I find that I don't use it often because the bottle it comes in makes it hard to use and it is messy.

There has to be a better way:

1. Multi purpose, fine tipped bottle( I got mine at Sallys)
2. Eraser from a mechanical pencil
3. Mod Podge

I had to get a little creative because the bottle didn't come with a cap.

I poked a small hole in the end of the eraser big enough to fit the tip of my bottle and then chopped the length of the eraser to the right size.

Now I can easily work on projects without getting as much Mod Podge on my fingers.

Perfect.

I have a feeling that I will be making a few Mod Podge projects soon.

New Quilt

A friend of mine found this fun idea for a quilt, and its not too difficult.
First I appliqued 2" squares on muslin using pellon wonder under, then machine stitch along the edge of all the squares.
I love how it turned out.

I chose not to add batting to this one, but on the next one I think I will.

Good Blueberry Muffins

Tis the season for fresh fruit here in the OC.

I am loving it.
Here is a recipe I came across from allrecipes.com

Blueberry Muffins

1 1/2 cup flour
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoon baking powder
1/3 cup canola oil
1 egg
1/3 cup milk
1 cup fresh blueberries

Crumb Topping:
1/2 cup white sugar
1/3 cup flour
1/4 cup butter cubed
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Combine flour, sugar, salt and baking powder, mix. Add oil, egg and milk to flour mixture. Mix well. Fold in blueberries. Fill muffin cups right to the top, and sprinkle with crumb topping mixture.

How to make Crumb Topping:
Mix together sugar, flour, butter, and cinnamon. Mix with a fork and sprinkle over muffins before baking.

Bake for 20-25 minutes in preheated oven or until done.

( I was told by a very special someone that these are "the best muffins of the year"... but you will have to try them for yourself and see what you think)

Knit Shirt with Ruffles

I recently finished a shirt that I have putting off for a couple months, probably because it was a scary project for me.

I traced around one of my favorite shirts to make the pattern. I sewed up the sides, hemmed the sleeves and bottom and then added ruffles around the neck line.
Sounds simple, but I unpicked it a few times :)
