Weighted Pincushion Organizer/Scrap Catcher

A friend of mine found this tutorial over at sew mama sew, on one of our craft nights we made them.  It turned out cute. I decided to send this one to my sister Beth who has recently got into sewing. 

My New Bag

I made myself a new bag.  This is the first time that I have used linen.  I have to say that I LOVE linen but I also found that it can be a little tricky because it frays easily.  I learned a lot by making this bag and I like the way it turned out.

Pants Refashion

The other day I bent over to pet the dog before I left of work and I felt and heard a rip in my pants.  I quickly did a check in the mirror, because of course I was running late, and everything looked good.  Well, after I got home that night I realized that there was a tear in my pants and it was about 1 inch long right on the butt.  I had to laugh because I went the whole day and nobody said anything....hmmm

Since I am a thrifty shopper.  I headed to the thrift store to find another pair of work pants.  I found these beauties.  I wish I had remembered to take a picture before but here is a picture with one leg done.  This is one of the easiest ways to make the leg part of the pants skinnier.

All you need to do is flip the pants inside out and sew on the inner part of the pants ( the inner thigh side), starting from the bottom of the pants and stitch up.  I actually had to take in about 2 inched on these.  As you sew up the leg slowly merge your new stitch into the old stitch and they will look  awesome!!  After you are done stitching cut off the extra. I did a zigzag stitch over the part I cut just to give it some extra support, I really don't need another rip.

Strip Quilt

A few months ago I got a strip quilt kit for really cheap.  I finally finished it thanks to craft night with a good friend.  The fabric isn't my favorite but I think it turned out cute anyway.   Now I just need to find a good back for it.  I ended up making each block into an 8 inch square, using 2 1/2 inch long strips of fabric.

New Quilt

A friend of mine found this fun idea for a quilt, and its not too difficult.

First I appliqued 2" squares on muslin using pellon wonder under, then machine stitch along the edge of all the squares.

I love how it turned out.

I chose not to add batting to this one, but on the next one I think I will.

Knit Shirt with Ruffles

I recently finished a shirt that I have putting off for a couple months, probably because it was a scary project for me.

I traced around one of my favorite shirts to make the pattern. I sewed up the sides, hemmed the sleeves and bottom and then added ruffles around the neck line.

Sounds simple, but I unpicked it a few times :)

Wallet/ Mini Purse

A friend of mine was given as a gift an amazing hand made wallet. I saw hers and had to try and make one for myself. Not really knowing what I was doing I put this together.

After making my wallet I learned a couple things: first, it was way to floppy to be a wallet and second it was way to big to be a wallet, so my quick thinking.... ( idea by aaron) I put a strap on it, and now it is a lovely mini purse.

Scrappy Pouch

Basically, when I sew I constantly have loose string and scraps dangling from my clothes. I knew there had to be a better way. I came up with something to help.

I found a great tutorial over at Skip to my Lou for a drawstring bag. I modified the pattern to make a Scrappy Pouch. The pouch can easily hang on my machine and the added boning makes it perfect for dropping scraps into.

My modifications:

Measurements 7" x 22"

Added boning in place of the string and stitched it closed on both sides

Added two Velcro close straps

Ring Pincushion

I found a great idea for a ring pincushion over at craftgossip and I had to make a couple. They are super easy and they work great.
